The Crafts, Kirkcudbright

This project involved the conversion of William Miles Johnston’s former studio outbuilding, and a new conservatory extension to the rear of the existing house.

The outbuilding was in need of structural consolidation; a new roof structure and floor joists were inserted. The design approach was for new interventions to provide a modern contrast to the older structures; standing seam powdercoated steel roofs and cladding, and aluminium clad windows and doors were used. Internally, a new Douglas Fir truss echoes the former truss in this space.

The client engaged Joanna for a Full Service and the project was complete in 2021.
